Shortages in automotive connectivity are structural, not exceptional. Capacity for moulded housings and stamped terminals is planned years ahead against forecasts. When forecasts move, and they always move, the supply base cannot flex quickly: tooling is dedicated, plating lines are booked, and raw material and resin supply has its own constraints. Add a plant event, a logistics disruption or a demand spike in an adjacent industry, and a part that quoted at four weeks quotes at fifty-two.
Allocation changes the buyer's position. Orders are filled against historical consumption, not against need. A programme ramping up has no history to claim against, so it is exactly the programme that gets squeezed. Meanwhile quoted lead times drift: the date moves, then moves again, and the harness build sits on a single missing line item while every other part is on the shelf.
What actually helps in that window is honest information. A confirmed date on real stock is worth more than an optimistic date on stock that does not exist yet, and a buyer who is told "this one we cannot get, here is the alternative" can act on it.
Harness Code operates in that window: sourcing from a supplier network outside the standard catalogue channels, and quoting lead times it can stand behind, including saying no when the part cannot be found in time.

An obsolete or End-of-Life component is one the manufacturer has stopped producing. It usually passes through an NRND warning and a last-time-buy window first, after which the only remaining supply is existing channel stock, excess inventory, or a qualified alternative.
